Terranea Resort to Host Annual Celebration of Food & Wine

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. (September 15, 2016) – On October 21-23,Terranea Resort, A Destination Hotel, will host its third annual Celebration of Food & Wine. The grand weekend-long event will offer cooking demonstrations and wine seminars led by experts, along with The Study of Pork Reception, Judgment of Paris 1976 Dinner, Japanese Whiskey Dinner, After-party with special entertainment, Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Robert Mondavi Luncheon, Refreshment Lounge, two Grand Tastings, and Champagne Brunch.

 

The 2016 Celebration of Food & Wine will be the largest yet and will offer six seminars led by wine experts, including Terranea’s chefs and select guest chefs. Master Sommeliers attending include Emily Papach, Reggie Narito Jr., and Erik Entrikin. Top Los Angeles Sommeliers also in attendance include Rachel Macalisang of The Bazaar by José Andrés, Naureen Zaim of Eveleigh, Nadia Pavelska of NP Wine Consulting, Eduardo Bolaños of Terroni, Kamden Watson of Butcher’s Daughter, Diego Ruiz de Porras of The Belvedere, Sergio Vergara of the Viceroy, Frederic Zemmour of Sofitel. Special guests include Master of Wine Amy Christine of Black Sheep Finds, Jeridan Frye of Moët Hennessy, and Chrystal Clifton of Palmina and La Voix Wines. Executive Chefs in attendance include Tim Wood of Carmel Valley Ranch, Dereck Simcik of Thompson Hotel Seattle, Paul McCabe of Town & Country Resort and Convention Center, Josh Perez of Hotel Vitale, and Dushyant Singh of The Camby Hotel, along with Executive Chef Bernard Ibarra and the team at Terranea Resort.

 

The Celebration of Food & Wine will kick off Friday, October 21st, with a curated selection of three themed dinner gatherings. From 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., The Study of Pork Reception, hosted by Pernod Ricard, will offer a contemporary twist on the traditional pig roast. The reception, featuring live music and refreshments, will showcase “snout to tail” food stations featuring cuisine prepared by Terranea and guest chefs. A la carte tickets are available for $90pp.

 

From 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., the Judgment of Paris 1976 Dinner, hosted by Master of Wine Amy Christine, will delight guests’ palates with a 3-course dinner prepared by mar’sel Chef de Cuisine Andrew Vaughan. Commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Paris Judgment of 1976, the dinner will also feature Todd Coffin of Chateau Montelena and Chuck Purrington of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. A la carte tickets are available for $175pp.

 

Celebrating the art of whiskey pairing, a Japanese Whiskey Dinner will also take place from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Guests will enjoy a 3-course dinner prepared by Terranea’s Executive Sous Chef Bruce Nguyen and have the opportunity to hear Roberto Loppi, Suntory Beam’s Global Ambassador, discuss Japanese whiskey pairings. A la carte tickets are available for $95pp.

 

Following Friday’s dinners, guests are invited to mingle and unwind at the Celebration of Food & Wine’s After-party. Featuring special entertainment by DJ Connor Cruise and refreshments by Pernod Ricard, this vibrant tropical soirée will be the perfect occasion to indulge in after dinner canapés such as savory & sweet crepes, grilled fruit, and tropical desserts while wrapping up the evening in style. The After-party will take place from 9:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. Weekend ticket holders are invited to attend. A la carte tickets are available for $75pp.

 

On Saturday, October 22nd, guests are invited to the Celebration of Robert Mondavi Luncheon, featuring a 3-course meal in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Robert Mondavi Winery with National Sales Director Jose Fernandez and hosted by Master Sommelier Erik Entrikin. Guests will experience curated wine pairings as well as the new Robert Mondavi “Maestro” Bordeaux Blend firsthand. The Celebration of Robert Mondavi Luncheon will take place from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Weekend ticket holders are invited to attend. A la carte tickets are available for $125pp.

 

From 11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., guests are invited to attend a series of curated cooking demonstrations and wine seminars. Starting at 11:30 a.m., New World: Wines of the New Frontiers led by Reggie Narito Jr., MS, will explore wines harvested and fermented from new areas of the globe. Concurrently, Executive Chef Bernard Ibarra  will lead A Taste of Terranea, featuring Dimitri Bizoumis of Villa Oneiro Winery, a unique tasting experience infused with locally foraged and sustainably grown ingredients and paired with wine from the peninsula. At 2:00 p.m., Old World: France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, and Spain will explore western European wines with Master Sommelier Erik Entrikin and a panel of sommeliers. Concurrently, Terranea’s Executive Pastry Chef Pierino Jermonti and Resort Sommelier will lead The Art of Dessert, featuring a live demonstration of Chef Pierino preparing special dessert items and dessert wine pairing. At 3:30 p.m., Emily Papach, MS, will lead Women in Wine. Concurrently, catalina kitchen Reimagined will offer an exclusive preview tasting of the restaurant’s new menu with Chef de Cuisine David Tarrin and the Resort Sommelier, closing the seminars for the day at 4:30 p.m. Weekend ticket holders will be able to attend one cooking demonstration or wine seminar of their choosing per time slot. A la carte tickets for the cooking demonstrations and wine seminars are available for $50pp/event. From 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., a Refreshment Lounge will be provided on the Lobby Bar Terrace.

 

The VIP Red Carpet Reception will offer guests the full treatment. A supreme selection of Piper-Heidsieck Champagne will be paired with Petrossian Caviar will create a luxurious tasting experience. Guests will have the opportunity to walk the event’s red carpet and mingle with other attendees. The VIP Red Carpet Reception will take place from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Only Weekend and Saturday Package ticket holders and guests with invitations are invited to attend.

 

The Grand Tasting will showcase six food stations with cuisine prepared by the Celebration of Food & Wine’s attending chefs. Complemented by 80 different winery options, guests will have the opportunity to taste and explore a variety of exciting and dynamic flavors. The Grand Tasting will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Weekend ticket holders are invited to attend as well as sommeliers, executive chefs, and special guests. A la carte tickets are available for $165pp.

 

On Sunday, October 23rd, guests are invited to attend the weekend’s final event, a Champagne Brunch, hosted by Jeridan Frye of Moet Hennessy, featuring a 3-course seafood and champagne brunch. Guests will have the opportunity to sip champagne by Veuve Cliquot and enjoy delicious caviar from California Caviar Company, while listening to pairing discussions led by Executive Chef Bernard Ibarra, Chef de Cuisine Andrew Vaughan, Executive Pastry Chef Pierino Jermonti, and Master Sommeliers Erik Entrikin and Reggie Narito Jr.. Featuring Moët Hennessey collection, the Champagne Brunch will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Weekend ticket holders are invited to attend. A la carte tickets are available for $150pp.

 

Weekend passes are offered at $715pp including all events Friday through Sunday, and Saturday passes are available for $540pp including all events Saturday and Sunday Brunch. Special room rates are also available for attendees. Upon purchase of event tickets, guests interested in staying at the resort will be offered a preferred event rate on the confirmation page. Proof of purchase is required at check-in to confirm the rate.
