Terranea Resort Expands Food and Beverage Team with New Appointments

The resort welcomes a Director of Restaurants, Resort Sommelier, and General Manager at signature restaurant mar’sel.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. (Dec. 3, 2014) – Los Angeles’ premier oceanfront resort, Terranea, A Destination Hotel, announces three new appointments to its food and beverage team. The resort welcomes a Director of Restaurants, Resort Sommelier, and General Manager at signature restaurant mar’sel. In its fifth year of operation, Terranea has grown into one of the leading resorts in Los Angeles and Southern California, as well as a celebrated dining destination with eight distinct, world-class culinary venues.

Aloys Scheer has been appointed as General Manager of mar’sel, Terranea’s signature restaurant. Scheer joins Terranea with nearly 10 years of food and beverage experience within the hospitality industry. He has held positions at several of Southern California’s notable hotels, including the Canary Hotel in Santa Barbara, Four Seasons Beverly Hills, as well as Shutters on the Beach and the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows in Santa Monica. Scheer will be working alongside mar’sel’s new Chef de Cuisine Charles Olalia to continue to position mar’sel as one of the most prominent restaurants in Los Angeles.

 

Szymon Piechaczek has been appointed to the role of Resort Sommelier. Piechaczek began his career in the food and beverage industry over 25 years ago. He joined Terranea in 2013 and, as the new Resort Sommelier, brings his extensive knowledge and experience with international and domestic wines to the position. Piechaczek will oversee wine selection, partnerships, sales, resort inventory and handle all promotions. He previously held positions at The Royal Palms Resort & Spa and Fred’s at Barneys New York, both in Arizona.

 

Michael Wildey joined Terranea in 2012, as Food and Beverage Manager of Nelson’s and has recently been promoted to Director of Restaurants. A South Bay native, Wildey has nearly 20 years of food and beverage experience. He spent more than ten years with Chart House Restaurant, quickly moving through the ranks, where he became the company’s youngest Assistant General Manager in Redondo Beach and was later promoted to General Manager at the Malibu location. Wildey also spent time as a Marketing Associate with SYSCO Food Service where he excelled in client service and sales. Now as Terranea’s Director of Restaurants, Wildey will manage special projects and overall operations for all of the resort’s eight dining venues, which include mar’sel, catalina kitchen, bashi, Lobby Bar, Pool Bar, Cielo Point, Nelson’s and Spa Café.
