HSMAI LOS ANGELES HONORED HOSPITALITY LEADERS AT THE 2019 BEST OF THE BEST AWARDS CEREMONY THIS WEEK

(November 22, 2019) — Terranea Resort President Terri A. Haack was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Los Angeles 2019 Best of the Best Awards, on November 19, 2019, at Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles. The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to individuals who have proven exceptional dedication and contributed to the betterment of the hospitality industry in a significant and lasting way.

"It is a true privilege to be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Los Angeles chapter of the HSMAI and be recognized alongside some of the city's brightest minds in the hospitality industry," said Haack.

With a distinguished career spanning more than 35 years in hotel and resort operations management, Haack is responsible for the overall operating performance of Terranea Resort, the 102-acre luxury destination, located along California's coastline on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Haack joined Terranea in 2007, spearheading pre-construction operations for the $480 million property and guiding the resort's debut in June 2009. Now, in 2019, she celebrates the significant achievement of a decade of leadership at Terranea coinciding with the property's milestone 10-year anniversary.

Earlier this year, Haack introduced an initiative to honor an employee culture that serves authentic hospitality from the heart: Terranea Proud. At its core, Terranea seeks to build a strong and diverse culture—one where recruitment policies, a diverse workforce, in-house training programs and an inclusive environment reflect a workplace of which all associates can be proud. The resort has received national certification as a Great Place To Work, and also named one of Los Angeles' Top Places to Work. It now employs more than 1,200 associates and continues to thrive as a top destination, renowned for its natural beauty and unrivaled guest service.

In addition, Haack is deeply engaged in the community and serves on the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Executive Committee, Board of Directors, is Chairman of the Educational Foundation Scholarship Committee and a founding Board Member and Chairman of the Women in Lodging Executive Council. Haack is also a member of the strategic planning board for Marymount California University, member of the President's Advisory Council of Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy and on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles.

As a global organization of sales and marketing professionals representing all segments of the hospitality industry, HSMAI Los Angeles recognizes leaders in the industry located in Southern California with their annual Best of the Best Awards. Categories include Hotel of the Year, Best New Hotel, Rising Star, and Beyond the Call of Duty, among others. Terranea has been recognized previously by the HSMAI, winning multiple Platinum, Gold and Silver Adrian Awards. Haack was also selected by the organization as General Manager of the Year in 2018.
