Holiday Wellness at your Fingertips

Written By Sharon Holtz, Spa Director at Terranea Resort

Here it is, the “most wonderful time of the year.” Amidst all the wonder, sometimes stress can sneak in and we can find ourselves a bit run down or even overwhelmed. Here are some wellness reminders to help make it a happy and healthy holiday season!

1. Hydration: Always important, easy to remedy, and so easy to forget. Proper hydration affects so many key functions of our bodies; it can really boost overall well-being. The special bonus: a hydrated body means hydrated skin looking its best. It’s a win-win.

2. Sleep: Don’t be tempted to miss out on your Zzzs due to your busy social calendar or late-night shopping hours. Give your body the gift of sleep to keep your stress levels down and your immune system at its peak.

3. Moments of Quiet: Find your moments of peace wherever you can. Is it being mindful while on the elevator to take a few deep breaths? What about taking a few minutes before bed to turn off the electronics and quiet your mind? Try driving in silence for a bit? Allow yourself to be present. Will your mind not stop? Get your thoughts, to-do lists and concerns out of your head and written down. This can give you peace of mind and allow your mind to relax.

4. Moderation: Enjoy the holidays and all the goodness that comes along with them. The key is to indulge, just don’t overindulge. You will thank yourself in the New Year!

5. Movement: It is so easy to get out of your routine, but that just means you have to find creative ways to keep your body moving. Park further away from your destination and walk briskly for a “mini” cardio. Standing in line, you can make the most of it. Do some heel lifts to work your calves, bicep curls with your shopping bags, strengthen your core and improve your balance with simple single-knee lifts. Of course, make sure you have a cart or counter nearby for stability.

6. Boost Wellness: Find little ways to boost your well-being. Don’t forget to take your vitamins and supplements that help your body stay well. Make sure you are getting your goodness from what you eat - don’t forget your fruits and vegetables, fresh juices, herbal teas. Use essential oils to help you relax, revitalize and balance.

7. Mother Nature: Don’t forget the power of connecting to nature. A short walk by the water or through a park, pulling over from your drive home to appreciate the sunset, find ways to connect with nature to relieve stress and improve your well-being.

8. Celebrate 2017 and look forward to all that awaits you in the New Year! Cheers!
