The Spa at Terranea: Focus on Nature's Rhythms Brings Balance to Mind, Body and Spirit
New Spa and Resort Opening June 2009
Palos Verdes, Calif.- March 12, 2009- When Terranea Resort opens in June 2009, one of its most stunning offerings will be The Spa at Terranea, the newest in luxury spas in California. With a dramatic setting at the edge of the Pacific Ocean and undisturbed beauty of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, The Spa at Terranea is a California-style sanctuary of the senses that delivers an experience of relaxed, renewed and restorative wellness. The 102-acre Terranea Resort is managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts and developed by Lowe Enterprises.
Terranea's harmonious relationship with nature is the cornerstone of The Spa experience. In sync with the tranquility, wisdom and splendor of the natural world, The Spa at Terranea is a peaceful haven where life-enriching programs and therapies bring body, mind and spirit into balance. Spa treatments and activities reflect nature's gentle rhythms- the seasons of life, ebb and flow of tides, cycles of the moon- while design, decor and products showcase nature's beauty.
The Spa at Terranea has developed programs and treatments that focus on the body's natural bio-rhythms, rhythms that are too easily disturbed by the demands of modern life. Balance is achieved through spa offerings that work in harmony with the body's natural circadian rhythm. In doing this, the spa experience is restorative, effectively working to combat the disease and distress of daily living.
In the morning, when the body's internal rhythm dictates a rise in temperature, hormonal levels and blood pressure, the spa offers vibrant and invigorating treatments such as barefoot walking, coastal hikes, sunrise yoga, cleansing rituals and energetic massage. As the body begins its slow, cooling process in the afternoon to prepare for rest, the spa features gentle, quieting treatments that encourage rest and relaxation including meditation, aromatherapy, soothing wraps and tranquil baths.
Throughout the entire experience, guests are gently reminded of nature's physical presence and beauty. The Spa takes full advantage of its oceanfront location with a U-shaped design that cradles a sparkling lap pool and intimate gardens with cozy fire pits. Breathtaking ocean views are a hallmark of the spa experience, visible from places such as the second story co-ed lounge with walkout oceanfront balcony, sweeping grand staircase, couples suites and outdoor yoga terrace.
Generous use of natural wood, stone and water continues nature's theme and makes the transition between indoor and outdoor space seamless. A barnacle encrusted fireplace is an extension of the sea below. Spa services feature marine plants, salt waters, local grasses, rocky stones and crystal quartz- all which are indigenous to Terranea's location. The Basalt Rock Massage, Crystal Quartz Exfoliation and Marine Algae Wrap are just a sampling of the signature treatments that incorporate these local ingredients.
The Spa's relationship with the environment is also honored in the form of eco-education. Guests of Terranea learn about the Resort's marine refuge, which is rich in kelp forests and serves as a protective environment to whales, dolphins, sea lions and sea otters. They are also introduced to a wide range of rare plants and animals unique to the coast including the American Kestrel and El Segundo Blue Butterfly. Opportunities to give back to this precious natural resource are available through on-property volunteer and giving programs.
The Spa at Terranea was designed by BAMO of San Francisco and embraces classic Mediterranean style architecture. The 50,000 square-foot facility includes 25 luxury treatment rooms, three suites, separate indoor/outdoor lounge retreats for men and women, lush garden areas with cozy fire pits, an oceanfront lap pool, 5,000 square-foot Fitness and Wellness Center, full-service salon and Spa Cafe.
