Terranea Resort kicked off the holiday season on Dec. 1, with a festive evening and Tree Lighting ceremony called Celebration of the Season. The event featured live holiday performances from community organizations including Coast Music Conservatory Youth Choir, Freedom 4U Carol Singers, Norris Center for the Performing Arts "Times Square Kids," Peninsula Montessori School Class 116, and Coast Music Conservatory Storey Time Vocal Quartet. The highly anticipated countdown of the tree lighting was lead by special guests Stephanie LaFranchi and Melissa Onak from the Gathering Place. In addition, a Holiday Village was built that included activities for kids such as cookie decorating, elves and build-a-bear. Children also brought letters to mail to Santa via the resort’s “Santa’s Mailbox” at Pointe Discovery (available through Dec. 24).
One of the evening highlights was a donation to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. Terranea Resort employees and guests collected more than 100 gifts for Toys for Tots leading up to the event. A surprise donation was also made by Mattel, whose U.S. Marketing Team generously contributed several dozen toys during their meeting off-site at the Resort.

About The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Program
The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is a not for profit organization authorized by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Department of Defense to provide fundraising and other necessary support for the annual Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. Now in its 65th year, Toys for Tots provides joy and a message of hope to less fortunate children through the gift of a new toy or book during the Christmas holiday season. Our gifts offer these children hope, recognition, and a positive memory they will cherish for a lifetime. Many of the books, games, and sports equipment that we provide as gifts make a significant contribution to the educational, social and physical development of these children. In 2010, Marines distributed toys to more than 7.2 million children who might not have otherwise experienced the magic of the Christmas holiday season. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation relies on individual donations from the American public as well as support from corporate sponsors. For more information, visit www.toysfortots.org.
