Terranea Resort Brings New Flavor to L.A. Coast’s Culinary Landscape

With Debut of Asian-Inspired Dining Experience, bashi

Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. (June 6, 2012) – Southern California travelers and epicurean explorers will discover a new and vibrant dining destination set against a Pacific Ocean backdrop with the debut of bashi at Terranea Resort. The latest eatery at Los Angeles’ premier oceanfront resort, bashi joins Terranea’s award-winning culinary landscape, offering a contemporary blend of Asian cuisine and local flavors in a spectacular setting on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Embracing the rich heritage of Terranea’s surroundings, bashi is inspired by the Japanese farming families who first settled in Palos Verdes in the early 1900s. Today, bashi pays tribute to the historic agricultural community, with a menu that celebrates fresh Asian fare and emphasizes the use of seasonal and locally harvested ingredients. The Japanese term “bashi” means bridge, and is not only a nod to the Japanese farming families but also a celebration of the restaurant’s distinctive mix of Eastern cuisines and its home at Terranea.

Guests enjoy a casual, yet lively setting at bashi, with a vibrant lunch and dinner menu from Chef Bruce Nguyen – whose esteemed career includes a list of celebrated Asian restaurants such as Nobu, China Grill and San Francisco’s acclaimed Butterfly, which Nguyen opened alongside Chef Robert Lam. At bashi, Nguyen draws upon his Vietnamese heritage and fond memories of traditional dishes made by his mother to weave simple, fresh ingredients into flavorful creations. Signature offerings include versions of his mother’s special spring rolls and a secret marinade for roasted chicken.

bashi’s contemporary ‘wok’ prepared dishes are served flow-style, presented immediately to the table from the pan. Honoring Asia’s diverse regional cuisines, specialties range from Shanghai-Style Garlic Noodles and Five-Spice Roasted Duck Salad, to Crispy Fried Pacific Snapper and Chef Nguyen’s signature Lemongrass-Chili Roasted Chicken.  Small plates include Shrimp and Taro Spring Rolls and Hoisin-Glazed Ribs. Catering to families, bashi’s one-of-a-kind kid’s menu includes an option for children to create their own Bento Boxes.

The exceptional bashi bar fuses Old World ingredients with craft mixology, showcasing an extensive selection of artisanal, small batch spirits, to create a number of distinct and delectable drinks. Signature cocktails play upon unique flavor profiles – blending spicy, sour, sweet and savory – and include creations like the “Bashi Hot & Sour,” which features Whistle Pig Rye, TY KU Citrus Liqueur, fresh squeezed lime & lemon juices, Sriracha Chili and bacon.  Other featured signature drinks include the White Dragon and Midnight in Tokyo. Sake connoisseurs will find more than 17 selections of rice wine including varieties infused with Coconut-Lemongrass and Asian Pear, along with the Korean spirit soju and an unrivaled array of Asian beers.

Located adjacent to Terranea Resort’s main pool, bashi offers seating for 106 guests in an inviting setting accented by modern furnishings and a subtle blend of Asian design influences. Deep turquoise and bold ocean hues complement natural wood elements, highlighted by an intricate mosaic of light and dark wood floor tiles. Star-shaped, blue glass lanterns and bronze sconces cast soft lighting above bistro-style seating. Diners can also unwind at the stylish bar or outdoors where bashi serves up breathtaking views of the Pacific coastline alongside its stellar cuisine.

With the debut of bashi, Terranea’s dining experiences now offer tastes for every palate – from Asian to coastal California and Mediterranean cuisine, healthful spa fare and more. bashi is open daily for lunch and dinner, from 10:00am to 11:00pm. Seating is offered on a walk-in basis.
