Introducing Terranea Resort's Coastal Golf Course

Short on Yardage, Long on Challenge, Scenery and Time Savings

Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. - March 15, 2009 - Playing the scenic coastal golf courses of California has always incurred a substantial penalty - in terms of price. Terranea's challenging nine-hole, par-3 course opening in June 2009 will join the few other notable southern California coastal golf courses like Torrey Pines and Coronado Municipal that offer accessibility to the public at a price that is also quite accessible.

The new Links at Terranea is part of the nearly $500 million, 102-acre oceanfront Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, just south of Los Angeles. The newest golf resort in California is managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts and developed by Lowe Enterprises.

Designed by noted golf course designer Todd Eckenrode, The Links at Terranea will be among the most engaging par-3 courses in the United States with elevation changes, contours, bunkering, unobstructed sightlines, and excellent playing conditions. Combining good golf with stunning ocean views will provide players of all skill levels with plenty of visual drama and 'wow' moments.

"While Mark Twain viewed golf as 'a good walk spoiled,' we consider The Links at Terranea to be 'a great walk enlivened,'" comments John Fitzpatrick, director of golf operations. "It will challenge the serious golfer, yet be fun and inviting for casual and new golfers."

At a time when golf course designers are looking to build the next biggest, longest, hardest golf course, The Links at Terranea offers a refreshing alternative. Some of golf's most storied venues - Augusta National, Shinnecock Hills, Pine Valley and Pebble Beach - boast par-3 gems where the young can learn and everyone can enjoy the game.

Fitzpatrick calls the Links at Terranea an "inclusive" golf experience and notes, "For those short on time, this course delivers a fun and manageable course, reasonably priced, that won't take all day to play."

The short game practice area will be an ideal place for beginners to learn the essentials of the short game or for serious golfers to hone their skills. The finishing 8th and 9th holes, which head straight toward the ocean, will be the most memorable as they frame vistas of the Pacific and Catalina Island.

The Links at Terranea will practice eco-friendly golf, using only pesticides and fertilizers which are either organic in nature or those which have no residual effect. The irrigation water from the course's daily flows will be treated in vegetated channels, called Bioswales. These contain plant species known for their ability to remediate secondary water sources through sedimentation, filtration, absorption, and vegetative uptake. Bioswales are essentially created wetlands, which, in addition to enhancing water quality, also provide habitat for many avian and aquatic species.

The 1,239-yard course (from the back tees) will be available to Terranea Resort's guests as well as the general public.
