Hollywood Inspires Terranea Resorts Programming for Children and Teens

Terranea is launching a series of movie industry-themed camps for children, tweens and teens

Palos Verdes, Calif. – March 2010- Tapping into its long history as a favorite Hollywood film location, Terranea is launching a series of movie industry-themed camps for children, tweens and teens as part of its unique programming for younger guests. Offered seasonally during winter, spring and summer breaks, new camps this spring include video game creation and special effects. The first camps begin March 29.

“These camps grew out of Terranea’s connection to Hollywood,” said Terri A. Haack, executive vice president & managing director. “What has been the perfect backdrop for many blockbuster films is also the ideal setting for introducing our younger generation to exciting aspects of the movie and television industry.”

The new camps conducted in conjunction with PlanetBravo include:

Lego-Motion (Grades 1-3)
In this construction and animation course, students build their own LEGO creations, then bring them to life in stop-motion movies! This class is half building, half creating with a tripod-mounted camera. Students even get to edit their own stop-motion movies on the computer! Everyone leaves class with digital movies of their LEGOs coming to life.

Video Game Creation (Grades 4-6)
Video games were made to be played by multiple people, and this class will focus on creating games that many people can enjoy. From split-screens and turn-by-turn games, to the complicated world of network gaming, multiplayer video game design will challenge even the most experienced of Fusion users to create an enjoyable experience for the Luigis of the world, and not just the Marios.

Special Effects (Grades 4-8)
At PlanetBravo, students are given the opportunity to use editing software to add in effects like green screen, picture-in-picture, and sound effects in the past. This year, we're taking it to the next level by offering an entire course in special effects and the incredible things that can be done in post production.

Each camp is five days long and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.  Cost for each camp is $425 and Spring Break camp dates are: March 29-April 2 and April 12-16. A resort stay is not required to participate in the camps and no experience is necessary. Reservations can be made at http://www.terranea.com/california-family-vacations.php or by calling (310) 265-2800.

A Star-Studded Past
Hollywood has long been drawn to Terranea’s scenic location. Many feature films have been shot on the property including all three of Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Aviator with Leonardo DiCaprio, Pearl Harbor with Ben Affleck, Charlie’s Angels with Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz, and many more films and television shows.  Sea Hunt, starring Lloyd Bridges, discovered the unparalleled beauty of the Terranea location back in the 1950s.  In fact, Terranea honors this first Hollywood venture onto the property with the ocean view bar, Nelson’s, named for Lloyd Bridges’ character in Sea Hunt.
