Director of Golf Operations Named at New Terranea Resort
Todd Eckenrode-designed nine hole short course addresses new trend in golf
Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.- March 6, 2009 - Executive Vice President and Managing Director Terri A. Haack is pleased to announce John Fitzpatrick as director of golf operations for Terranea Resort, the nearly $500 million oceanfront resort development in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. Managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts and developed by Lowe Enterprises, the 102-acre luxury resort is situated along the California coastline in Palos Verdes, just south of Los Angeles. The 400-room property is scheduled to open in June 2009.
Fitzpatrick has worked with Lowe Enterprises for over 6 years, primarily with LDD Desert Development in Indian Wells, where he was an integral part of the creation of Stone Eagle Golf Club, a spectacular Tom Doak-designed private golf club. For the past 18 months, Fitzpatrick has served as the marketing director for Terranea's real estate offering. His commitment at Terranea has now been expanded to a dual role, as he as assumes the director of golf operations position. In this capacity he will implement the operations and marketing plan for Terranea's stunning 9-hole golf course, while continuing to support the real estate marketing efforts.
Prior to joining Lowe, Fitzpatrick was with American Golf Corporation, where he had operating responsibility for a portfolio of 15 golf courses in Arizona, New Mexico and Hawaii. His tenure with American Golf started at Los Verdes Golf Course, located just up the road from Terranea.
Golf at Terranea
At a time when everyone is looking to build the next biggest, longest, hardest golf course, comes the short course game. The Links at Terranea provides a refreshing alternative that address the three areas that are vital to the growth of golf: time, affordability and enjoyment.
Terranea's nine-hole, par three course and practice area with chipping and putting greens is located on one of the most scenic peninsulas in Southern California with views to the Pacific and Catalina Island. Elevation changes, contours, bunkering, views, unobstructed sightlines and excellent playing conditions all combine to give it more than its share of visual drama and 'wow' factor. The finishing 8th and 9th holes, which head straight down to the ocean, will be the most memorable.
For those short on time, seasoned golfers, and beginners, this course delivers a fun and manageable course, reasonably priced, that won't take all day to play. The practice area will be an ideal place to brush up on the essentials of the short game. For those with more time, the Trump golf course is two miles from the resort.
