Fun Tips from The Links at Terranea to Get Kids Excited about Playing Golf
Junior Golf Tips for Parents
- The most important thing when developing your junior golfer is to keep everything FUN. Whether they hit a bad shot or a good shot all kids want to do is have fun and golf is certainly a great sport for them to learn very important values for life.
- Try this fun putting game with your junior golfer to help them learn the importance of “speed” on the putting greens. Start by setting up 3 balls from 5 feet away from a hole on the putting green. Using a club or flag stick set up a backstop about 3-6 feet from the hole. Tell your child that if they leave it short of the hole they lose one point. If they make it past the hole but it hits the backstop they also lose 1 point. Tell them if they make it in the hole they receive 50 points! See how many points they can get from different length putts.
- When chipping with your child, challenge them to get onto the green and into the hole in 2 shots or less. For every “up and down” they make tell them they get a nickel. Your child will not only learn the value of getting their chip shots close and how important short game is, but also a good money-saving lesson as well!
